Teens in Acting School: Los Angeles
There is so much more a young adult can take away from acting classes than just the ability to secure a job in the industry. When teens express an interest in acting, encourage them, but in the spirit of having fun and making it an educational experience rather than a means to an end. Something like acting--singing, dancing, or playing an instrument, for that matter--should never be forced, or it simply won't work with the dedication a talent needs to thrive. When young people are truly into acting and are willing to explore that side of themselves, a great deal can be learned. The interpersonal communication skills and self-confidence young people can get from acting is absolutely priceless. Whether they go on to become working actors or not, the skills they'll take away from acting classes will remain with them forever. If your teen is interested in acting classes, Los Angeles is home to great place called the Young Actor's Studio, a school geared toward, you guessed it, young actors. They offer classes and workshops throughout the year, at flexible times and at very affordable rates. The following are some of the workshops and classes they offer: acting on camera, acting technique, theatre production & scene study, the younger young actor's studio, adult acting class, and summer productions. The classes are divided up according to age level, so the teens can work together, the young ones can work together and the adults are in a class together. Instructors find that students do better and are more engaged when they're with a group of their peers. Young adults and teens cover many different things in their various acting schools, Los Angeles -based or not, but many aspiring actors tend to favor the Young Actor Studio curriculum. Some of the things that are studied and practiced are: learning to act with all 5 senses; how to use their own unique qualities to act; the technicalities of working on camera; gaining freedom in front of the camera; how to make a scene real; various audition techniques; wants and objectives in acting; sensory recall, place-work and past circumstances; improvisation, story telling and theatre games; and what it takes to produce and perform a show from start to finish. Younger children, aged 4-6, get the opportunity to explore the magic of the theatre, exploring acting through fairy tales, animal exercises, storytelling and improvisation. This is a great class to teach children to use movement and voice in expression; you can't imagine a better self-esteem and confidence builder than young people taking acting classes. Los Angeles parents who have aspiring actors for children are certainly lucky to have easy access to such a wonderful, unique little acting school. Los Angeles acting schools are a dime a dozen--let's face it--but Young Actor's studio is certainly one that stands apart from the others.
